Couple lounging comfortably at home

How to keep your Bountiful home comfortable this winter

The dropping temperatures in Bountiful aren’t leaving, and while it’s easy to daydream about the warmer temps, it’s important to remember that you can continue to be just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a large role in this, which is why it’s so crucial to keep up with annual furnace service.

We do have to bring up the fact that there are only a couple things that will contribute as much to your comfort this year as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service should be scheduled annually. After all, who wants to spend a cold winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them covered the entire time?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a few other jobs you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — a lot of energy companies will offer an energy audit for your home so you can find areas that need improving. You could be surprised what areas are allowing hot or cold air to escape.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door’s location, doors allow the opportunity for a lot of cold air to get in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you can still have air making its way in your home. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in working-order or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be permitting cold air inside. If you find any issues, weatherstripping is basic to replace and could take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common areas for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on how old your lights are, they could be letting all the hot air in your home sneak out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as basic as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These couple of tips are just a starting point, but do note that there are other simple fixes you can handle once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy jobs to complete on the weekend.
